Very Berry

IMG_1221.JPGIMG_1224.JPG

Did I tell you, that we finally got our worktops organised in the workshop? A chance mention by a visiting Groom-to-be and 1 week later we are happily working at waist-height counters – so much better for our poor ould backs!

Olive’s Wedding, in Ardagh, Longford on the 27th February was the first wedding we got to test run the new benches on! Such a pleasure to have SO Much space to work with, sure beats the days of getting 3 weddings in a weekend prepared in my not very sizeable kitchen – not to mention the toddler “helping”!

Olives’ bridesmaids wore deep red and she had requested one of our most popular bouquets – the fabulous Grand Prix Rose Posy Bouquet – timelessly elegant and velvety rich textured roses. The Bridesmaids carried white avalanche roses, interspersed with large round hypericum berries and all of the bouquets were wrapped in luxurious red velvet embossed satin ribbon.

We also arranged a Unity Candle piece for the Alter and 2 Large Traditional Style pedestal arrangement for the rear of the Alter and Lorraine delivered the bouquets to another happy RosieDays Bride!

Floral Fashionista!!

IMG_0457.JPGIMG_0481.JPG

Lorraine and I were invited by Confetti Magazine to take part in our 2nd Fashion Feature with the magazine, this time – the Summer Edition. The theme for the shoot – “Feeling Floral”.

The Stylist – Alexia McInerney, contacted me with the brief – vibrant colours! Fresh clean lines and a summery feel! So we got to work! We were asked to create an unusual hair piece, a corsage for wrist and lapel, 3 bouquets and a centrepiece arrangement.

The shoot took place in the Seafield Hotel in Gorey – a really beautiful Hotel with amazing Spa and Thermal Suite – I got to enjoy a blissful 2 hours alone in the pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub! The food is fab and I’m keeping the hotel in mind for a mini-break during the summer!

The roses we used were a beautiful summery orange “Marie Claire” – a stunning two-toned deep yellow/orange rose that opened in near to a star shape. Buttery Yellow “Ilios” and 3 different pink tones – Deep pink two toned “Amalia”, Bright Pink “Aqua” and pale pink “Barbie”. I also used pink, green, yellow and white cymbidium orchids to create an amazingly colourful teardrop bouquet.

For the centrepieces, we used mixed orange and red toned Germinis for a topiary arrangement and for the candelabra centrepiece, a mix of the 3 pink roses and creamy vendella roses.

The hair piece was created using an open “Barbie” rose and surrounded by deep purple lisianthus, individually wired in place. We also designed an over the shoulder corsage using a mix of the yellow and orange roses.

Amy got a quick lesson in how to wire gerberas when an emergency bouquet was needed at the end of the shoot and we had to disassemble the gerbera centrepiece arrangement!! And I’m still traumatised over letting the “Bride” balloon go – I wonder if they managed to get it down from the Foyer Ceiling yet!!

I have below some of my own shots from the day – we will publish the “official” shots when the magazine goes to print!!

Special thanks to Amy Furlong, Photo Shoot Co-ordinator, as welcoming as always and thanks for the night away in the fabulous Seafield Hotel! Thanks to Kip Carroll, Photographer, a pleasure to work with again, to Dara in Frilly Frocks Drogheda and the hair and make up girls – Changing Faces and Bridget’s Hair Salon – lovely to work with you all!!

Cupcake Queenie

Shabby Chiq 2c WEB L +.jpgShabby Chiq 3d WEB L +.jpg

When Niamh started making Cupcakes for our mum and toddler group meetings, we were all delighted – these cakes are like nothing you’ve had before – melt in the mouth delicious and we are regular and willing guinea pigs for new recipes and creations (most recently, pineapple and coconut – truly amazing!!!)

DSC01159.JPG

I ordered cupcakes from Niamh for my son’s first birthday party in May last year and since then, Niamh has expanded and not only provides amazing cupcakes for birthday parties, etc., she is now creating fabulous and delicious wedding cupcakes – a growing trend among wedding couples – to have a stacked pile of tasty cupcake treats instead of the traditional wedding cake.

Niamh uses only the best quality ingredients (using Irish where possible!!) and free-range eggs are used at all times. She can even accomodate dietery requirements (I ordered flourless cupcakes amongst my selection for my son’s birthday and Niamh made amazing almond based cakes!)

Flavours include and are not limited to: Lemon, Vanilla, American Almond, Red Velvet (chocolate), carrot cake, Ginger & Spice and toppings include creamcheese frosting (lemon & orange), buttercream (vanilla, lemon, rose, organge, chocolate), Chocolate Fudge, Rolled Fondant and Glace Icing. My most favourite recent combination was the decadent double chocolate cupcake with strawberry buttercream – to die for!!! Niamh hand makes all of the gorgeous toppers!

For more information or for a quotation for your party, christening, wedding or any special occasion, contact Niamh at cupcake.queenie@gmail.com you won’t be disappointed!!

PS. Niamh if you are reading this – I’m off chocolate for Lent so any samples you are dropping in must be chocolate free ;)

Pink Lady

IMG_0426.JPGIMG_0428.JPG

On 4th February we created bridal bouquets for Emma Hughes who was married in Rathfarnham Church.

When I first met with Emma, she explained that the bridesmaids would be wearing deep pink dresses and that she would like pink bouquets, but would also like a splash of purple in her own! So, I suggested mixed pink tones and I think they turned out very well – Emma was very happy with them!

We used stunning two-toned deep pink “Amalia” Roses, Bright Pink “Aqua” rose and the pretty pale pink, aptly named “Barbie” Rose. Hand-tied together with gorgeous creamy vendella roses and a small amount of deep purple lisianthus in the brides’ bouquet. We finished the bridesmaid’s bouquets with luxurious deep-pink velvet to match their dresses and the bridal bouquet stems were wrapped in ivory satin and finished with pearl pins.

We also provided our Bay Trees at the front of Rathfarnham Church, dressed with Organza and deep pink satin ribbon.

Vintage Style for Finnstown Bride

IMG_0407.JPGIMG_0409.JPG

29th January and a beautiful crisp winters’ day! I delivered bridal bouquets to Emma at Finnstown House for her wedding day.
Emma wasn’t sure what flowers to have in her bouquets and with the bridesmaids wearing black satin, the choices were unlimited! I showed her a picture of a similar bouquet we had done at a previous wedding and she absolutely fell in love with it.
I have to admit, the combination of the old-fashioned Leonidas roses with the creamy vendella is one of my favourites!
We finished the bridal bouquet with muted antique gold satin ribbon and the bridesmaids’ bouquets were finished with gold ribbon and black lace detailing.
