Make Me Over!

2010-10-24 20.36.56.jpg

One of the last things my beloved sister made me promise before she left us was that I “made more effort” with my clothes and make-up! I’m usually very casual and while working to me dressing means as many layers of warm clothes as possible, leggings to date, have been something to wear UNDER jeans to keep warm!

Sharon was incredibly stylish, having lived in Paris for 2 years I think she absorbed the Parisian Style and could put together an outfit and finish it “just so” with a scarf or brooch pinned in just the right way! So, with that in mind I called on the help of 2 experts – Sandra from “San Faisean” – Stylist and Personal Shopper and Breda from “More than MakeUp”- Make Up Artist and Nail Expert.

Sandra arrived to my door and the de-cluttering began! I wanted a Spring Clean of my Wardrobe and Cupboards and we got to work, with a “Keep”, “Maybe” and a “No” pile! After 3 hours, there were 4 black bags of “No” clothes, I had a perfect wardrobe (pictured above), shoes tidy in a storage under my bed, cupboards and drawers half empty, but with clothes I know I can wear, with what I have in my wardrobe! Sandra spent time composing outfits with what I already have and gave me more than a wardrobe makeover, also the confidence that I look good and can wear my clothes better!! Sandra also provides “Virtual Styling” service that is worth checking out- when the budget allows I will be going shopping soon, but the few outfits I have bought since, I have used Sandra’s valuable advice and I feel so much better about how I dress – I even wore leggings – under a short dress!!I would highly recommend Sandra’s services!

Now for the brave bit – photos of me with no make-up!!

Eyelashes Before:                           Eyelashes After:

I met Breda while she was providing Wedding Make up to one of our recent Brides and I visited her home to try out “Shellac Nails”, “2 Week Eyelash Extensions” and get a Make-Application Lesson. Breda started with the lashes, a quicker process than 6 week lashes and just as effective, we went all out with quite long lashes as I was going on Holidays the following day and wanted to show them off! As you can see in the picture, they instantly make a difference and I loved them!

Next step was a make up lesson – I’m not “too” bad at this but for the life of me couldn’t work out blusher, so never bothered using it, and would always use neutral eyeshadows, but love the “smokey eye” effect. Breda explained and demo-d each step patiently and I left looking like I had cheekbones – delighted!

Finally – the nails! As you can imagine with my occupation, my nails suffer, my hands are dry from so much water and need a little TLC! After a mini-manicure, Breda painted on the Shellac polishes and dried them under a UV light, she also gave me a little bottle of cuticle oil (a special offer this month!) to take home and massage into fingernails each evening and stern advice to moisturise my poor hands every day!! As you can see, I went for a classic french polish and 10 days later they are still looking perfect!

Breda provides Stunning Wedding and occasion Make up in the comfort of your own home, as well as Make-Up Lessons, Spray Tans, Manicures and Pedicures, Shella Nails and much more and I would highly recommend her services!

Romancing the Snow

100_2198.JPG2010-12-04 13.33.12.jpg

By the time our first wedding of December arrived, on the 4th, I could categorically tell you what footwear does not work well in the snow – firstly, Ugg boots – not waterproof, and wet sheepskin is not very pleasant, and secondly – riding boots – while they may be warmer and water proof, they have no grip – by the end of December, I officially hate snow!!

100_2212.JPG

Let’s get back to our lovely bride Jennifer who was married on 4th December in AbbeyLeix Church, followed by Reception in the stunning surrounds of Castle Durrow in Co. Laois. Jennifer chose our Candlelight Package to set the scene in for the ceremony – Wrought Iron Aisle stands dressed with Ivy graced the aisle, with dramatic candelabra either side of the alter, and Bay Trees at the front entrance, the glow of candlelight adding a little warmth to a bitterly cold winters day!

Playing on the snowy, wintery theme, Jennifer chose bouquets of white roses, green mini-chrysanthemums and fluffy gypsophilia sprayed silver. The bridesmaids, who wore black satin, carried smaller posies with the same flowers as the Bride, who looked stunning on the day, complete with fur stole as she posed for a photo in the Snug Bar at Castle Durrow. We also bumped into Rhona and Susan again from the Powder Room Girls who did (as usual) a fab job with all the hair and make up.

We also dressed the Candelabra for the reception with lots of fresh ivy. This really complimented the graceful ballroom at Castle Durrow and we had a hairy few moments at the side of the N7, in the snow, in the un-water-proof Uggs gathering some fresh ivy as we ran a little short!!

After all the work was completed, we decided to warm our poor cold, wet feet by the open fire in the Snug Bar at Castle Durrow and ordered a tasty lunch – smoked salmon on brown bread and a big pot of comforting tea, before heading back to Abbeyleix to collect our stands and get back to the workshop to clean up.
