Going Grecian in Marino

A chance meeting with Theresa Kelly of KellyTDesigns (Handmade invites, favours and unity candles) led to the planning and design of Aoife and Gareths’ Wedding in Marino on the 5th June. Theresa, a family friend of Aoifes’ designed the wedding stationery and together with Aoife and Gareth, came up with a Grecian theme for the Big Day. RosieDays were asked to supply the bouquets and decorate the church and we were only too happy to!

When I spoke with Aoife, she had her mind set on something traditional, but a little different, with lots of ivy!! So, with that in mind, I suggested the bridesmaids carry 3 different toned pink roses to compliment the mink grecian style dresses, Aoife requested white roses for her own bouquet so we mixed avalanche and akito roses and gave the bouquet a lush variagated ivy collar with some trailing ivy to reflect the general theme in the decor of the day. The 3 bridesmaids bouquets, one deep pink “Amalia” Rose, one bright pink “Aqua” rose and one pale pink “Barbie” Rose were all finished with ivy collars.

Perhaps the cutest flowergirl ever – Aoife’s Daughter, carried a basket filled with grapes and ivy, and wore an ivy headdress.

St. Vincent De Paul Church in Marino provided the perfect backdrop for the Grecian theme with it’s bright interior and impressive columns reflecting the stands draped with white satin! We hung bunches of grapes and draped natural ivy on the aisle stands, with luxurious white satin drapes on alternate pews.

The Grand Candelabra were filled with lush foliage and grape centrepieces and we added a unity arrangement to show off Theresa’s fab unity candles! Aoife made was a stunning bride and a pleasure to deal with and the Groom didn’t scrub up too bad either!! The weather was absolutely amazing and myself and Lorraine got to take 10 mins outside the sacristy with a cuppa while we waited for the Christenings that were being held that morning to finish! Huge thanks to the wonderful Anne who let us set up the aisle stands and arrangements in the Sacristy while the Christening Ceremonies were being carried out and who fed Lorraine with tea and biscuits during the wedding ceremony.

Show Stoppers!

We recently took part in a wedding fair at the D4 Berkeley Court Hotel on 21st and 22nd May. I got to meet lots of lovely couples planning their wedding and enjoyed meeting Brendan Courtney and Jules Fallon of 1st Options Modelling, along with all the fab fellow wedding suppliers attending over the weekend. Pictured below are Suzie Mahony of Suzie Mahony Designs – fabulous handmade hats and headresses, Pamela Farrell of Farrell & Chase Stationery – gorgeous bespoke Letterpress stationery, Beverly and Sandra from Amazing Cakes (I managed to avoid stealing samples until late on Sunday afternoon!), Caroline & David Moloney of The Finishing Touch – Ireland’s first wedding planning service devoted to same sex marriages and civil ceremonies! Also pictured is a stunning dress, modeled by Irma of 1st Option, A Vera Wang gown retailing at €15,000 but available from Olivia at Discount Designers for €2,900!!! Although I have no pictures, I also met the lovely Aoife of Fifibelle shoes who specialise in shoes for larger shoe sizes!

Lorraine and I prepared for the wedding fair on the day before (Friday) as Lorraine (lucky girl) was heading off on her Summer Holiday on the 22nd, we decided to create 6 Bouquets for our stand, keeping things nice and simple, bouquets that we know brides will choose over and over again..a pomander of roses and we displayed 2 Grand Candelabra, 2 Aisle Stands and created a fab unity arrangement featuring sample personalised unity candles, now available at RosieDays. We also brought along one of our FairyLight Backdrops, now available for hire at RosieDays.

The first bouquet above is a handtied posy of double white crystal blush calla lillies with scented purple freesia, it was one of the most popular bouquets on the stand over the 2 days! The 2nd bouquet above is a handtied teardrop bouquet using avalanche roses, white bouvardia and crystal blush calla lillies, italian soft ruscus and fatsia leaves and finished with ivory organza on the stems.

The bouquets above are the ever-faithful bouquet of White Roses, simple finished with soft greenery and diamonte detail, and a slightly more quirky combination of GrandPrix Red Roses and deep purple lisianthus.

The last 2 bouquets are pictured above. On the left, my favourite of the show, a feast for the senses! Handtied bouquet of lavender, lisianthus, freesia, agapanthus and purple roses, with sage, rosemary and lavender foliage creating the most heavenly scent! Finished with deep grey satin ribbon handle. Finally, on the left, another very popular bridal bouquet, simple, elegant, timeless deep red roses, with a ruscus collar and finished with black satin and organza handle and matching bow.

Queen of Cabra Castle

On 22nd April 2010, Lorraine and Karl were married in picturesque Kilmainham Wood Church in Co. Cavan on a beautiful sunny day. By coincidence, it was also my 4th Wedding Anniversary (which wasn’t a sunny day, at all!!) and it was lovely to spend such a special day working at a wedding with such a fab couple – it also transpired later that afternoon when I was talking to the priest in Kilmainham wood, that the church I was married in (Kinlough, Co. Leitrim) and Kilmainham Wood, shared the same diocese!

Lorraine chose a fab colour palette, pink and lots of it! Her own bouquet featured dark pink calla lillies and germinis, and the bridesmaids carried posies of pale pink germinis, roses and white calla lillies, with the 2 cute-as-button flowergirls carrying mini posys of gerberas.

While I was completing the last of the setting up in the church, which included wrought iron aisle stands and the candelabra with centrepieces), I was able to enjoy listening to the very talented Fionnoula Monks running through the wedding pieces on her harp. When I discovered that the entrance piece was to be Pachebel’s Canon in D, I knew I had to stay and see the bride arrive, as it was the same entrance music that I walked up the aisle to, also played on a harp.

Lorraine’s reception was held at Cabra Castle – an awesome building, such history and so impressive as you drive up, set in beautiful surroundings…I wanted to get married all over again! We provided a FairyLight Backdrop behind the top table and I had a very nice lunch in the bar! Of course, a special mention here for Oscar, the resident Wolfhound – the size of a small pony and only 9 months old, the most placid dog i’ve met – he really is fab!

I stayed to watch Lorraine arrive and kept myself hidden in the choir gallery, I have to admit, I got very emotional listening to the entrance music and watching the flowergirls, then the bridesmaids, finally a stunning Lorraine arrive on her Father’s arm. There may have been a few tears! I left the wedding determined to go home and watch our own wedding DVD and relive the happy memories. I still cannot find it!

SpringField Hotel Showcase

On 20th and 21st February we took part in the Wedding Showcase at the Springfield Hotel, Leixlip. As we are the florists taking part in their “Elite Package” offer we were there to talk to brides and their grooms who had booked or were thinking of booking their wedding with the Springfield – and further afield!!

Over the weekend, we displayed our 90cm Vintage Silver Candelabra in the dining room which had been set up with full dressing for weddings – complete with chair covers and organza sashes – a nice extra to have included in your wedding package! We also displayed our Ivory “Chandelier” candelabra.

Pictured below are the sample bouquets that we created for display at the showcase. An elegant white calla lily and ruscus hand-tied teardrop bouquet, posies of mixed pink roses, a cute flowergirl wand and pomander, white and red rose posies and my favourite of the day- the pale yellow and ivory rose bouquet!

Eimear & Derek, 7th November 2009

A Scottish Groom and a Sligo Bride, who both arranged this wedding from Chicago U.S.A.! A pleasure to work with, Eimear was stunning on the day (and the groom scrubbed up well too)

The Church was St. Patricks in Curtlestown, Enniskerry, a quaint stone building set against the backdrop of the Wicklow mountains. We began by installing the Grand Wrought Iron Candelabra that were dressed with beautiful full central arrangement of Ruscus, Avalanche Roses, Thistles and lucious trailing greenery.

The Alter Unity Candle arrangement carried through the theme of thistle and roses, and also had deep purple lisanthus to add an extra depth of colour. We trimmed the Pew Ends with Organza Tulla wrapped around Avalanche Roses and Thistles, our luxurious Satin Covers for the Bride and Groom’s Chair completed the indoor decoration, and with a finishing touch, a pair of Bay Trees Dressed with Ivory Tulled graced the church doors.

The bridal bouquet was created in the hand-tied style, using avalanche roses, deep purple lisianthus, gorgeous delicate singapore orchids and of course, a hint of thistle as a nod to the Scottish element of the day! The Bridesmaid, who wore a gorgeous, handmade purple dress carried a complementary bouquet of roses, thistle and lisianthus. For the gorgeous flowergirl, we created a pomander ball of white chrysanthemums and deep purple lisianthus buds.

Of course, while we were in Enniskerry, a business lunch had to be had in Avoca cafe in Powercourt
