The Most Romantic Day of the Year..

….is the day that Olive and Paul chose to get married on this year – the 14th February 2011 – Valentines Day! Now, you would think that I would remember this on the morning, but alas, my poor husband was forgotten about until I pulled into a garage to get coffee and spotted all the bouquets and teddies in the Topaz garage!! Colm Hayes was talking on 2fm about Valentines Day and flowers and I rang in to say not only was I a florist – but I had forgotten it was Valentines Day!!

Thankfully, Olive chose not to go with a cliched red and love heart theme and instead had a classic candle-light wedding with understated bouquets.

The 2 bridesmaids wore gorgeous prom-dress style dusky purple satin dresses and olive chose a mix of white and sweet avalanche roses, tied in a posy style and finished with contrasting hot pink satin ribbon.

Olive’s own bouquet was reminiscent of Amy Huberman’s – a simple, classic posy of sweet avalanche roses tied in a posy style and finished with ivory satin, it perfectly suited Olive’s stunning wedding dress.

In the church we provided our “Candle-light Package” (see here for price information) – 2 Topiary Rose Trees at the Entrance with lanterns, 10 wrought iron Aisle Stands dressed with ivy and berries, a unity arrangement and satin chair covers, and candles on the rear alter.

In the hotel – Hotel Kilkenny www.hotelkilkenny.ie – we provided our Silver Candelabra on each table and dressed each with flowing soft ruscus foliage and white hypericum berries, on a mirror base with tealights. While I was working I was chatting one of the banquet managers and requested a club sambo – which was brought to me in the function room, with chips and a drink and when I went to pay I was told it was with compliments – and it was gorgeous!!

On the way home from Kilkenny, I very thoughtfully bought my husband a box of Butlers Chocolates and a nice bottle of red wine…..which I also thoughtfully shared with him that evening!!

Lady in the Chapel..

A beautiful sunny day and a fabulous setting for AnnMarie and John’s wedding on the 16th April in LadyChapel just outside Maynooth. There is just something about LadyChapel, it’s so quaint and set in such beautiful surroundings – right in the middle of fields and country side with little traffic passing and the sounds of nature, it has almost a calming effect!

AnnMarie had fallen in love with the style of a bouquet we had provided for one of our Christmas Bride’s and picked it for her wedding. We arranged it slightly differently, using the hand tied method as apposed to a bridal holder. Her bridesmaids wore deep cerise pink dresses which were perfectly complemented by the deep pink tones in the cymbidium orchids we used in the bouquets.

The bridal bouquet was hand tied in a teardrop fashion, using avalanche roses and cymbidium orchids and the bridesmaids carried sweet avalanche roses tied in a posy with orchids. The flowergirl carried a pomander ball of gypsophilia with orchid details.

In the Church we provided a unity candle arrangement using roses and orchids, a pedestal arrangement for the rear alter, pew ends of ivory tulled with a stem of orchids on each and at the entrance, a dramatic arch framed the doorway, using lots of fresh greenery including ivy and ruscus, with some rose and orchid detail.

Silver Bells

One of my favourite Christmas songs is “Silver Bells” so I thought that title was particularly apt. for the bouquets we did for Martina on 29th December.

Martina requested specifically that we use silver details in the bridesmaids’ bouquets and unity arrangement – to compliment the deep aubergine colour of the dresses. Her own bouquet was a more modern style arrangement in a teardrop shape.

For the Bridesmaids, we used gorgeous avalanche roses that opened beautifully, to add the silver elements, we used gypsophilia that we sprayed silver to keep the appearance light. The bouquets were finished with a small collar of soft ruscus greenery and silver satin ribbon. We added Diamonte pins for a final flourish – to match the sparkle of snow that covered the country over Christmas!

Martina’s bouquet was created on a bridal posy holder, using avalanche roses, white miniature calla lillies and white lisianthus. Deep green camelia leaves framed the bouquet and we folded variagated formium throught the bouquets to create contrast. The teardrop shape was finished with calla lillies and bear grass.

The unity arrangement was made using various foliage including camelia, berried ivy, ruscus and phoneix palm. We also used some ruscus that had been sprayed with silver to create the silver highlights and finished the arrangement with large white avalanche roses.
