Going Grecian in Marino

A chance meeting with Theresa Kelly of KellyTDesigns (Handmade invites, favours and unity candles) led to the planning and design of Aoife and Gareths’ Wedding in Marino on the 5th June. Theresa, a family friend of Aoifes’ designed the wedding stationery and together with Aoife and Gareth, came up with a Grecian theme for the Big Day. RosieDays were asked to supply the bouquets and decorate the church and we were only too happy to!

When I spoke with Aoife, she had her mind set on something traditional, but a little different, with lots of ivy!! So, with that in mind, I suggested the bridesmaids carry 3 different toned pink roses to compliment the mink grecian style dresses, Aoife requested white roses for her own bouquet so we mixed avalanche and akito roses and gave the bouquet a lush variagated ivy collar with some trailing ivy to reflect the general theme in the decor of the day. The 3 bridesmaids bouquets, one deep pink “Amalia” Rose, one bright pink “Aqua” rose and one pale pink “Barbie” Rose were all finished with ivy collars.

Perhaps the cutest flowergirl ever – Aoife’s Daughter, carried a basket filled with grapes and ivy, and wore an ivy headdress.

St. Vincent De Paul Church in Marino provided the perfect backdrop for the Grecian theme with it’s bright interior and impressive columns reflecting the stands draped with white satin! We hung bunches of grapes and draped natural ivy on the aisle stands, with luxurious white satin drapes on alternate pews.

The Grand Candelabra were filled with lush foliage and grape centrepieces and we added a unity arrangement to show off Theresa’s fab unity candles! Aoife made was a stunning bride and a pleasure to deal with and the Groom didn’t scrub up too bad either!! The weather was absolutely amazing and myself and Lorraine got to take 10 mins outside the sacristy with a cuppa while we waited for the Christenings that were being held that morning to finish! Huge thanks to the wonderful Anne who let us set up the aisle stands and arrangements in the Sacristy while the Christening Ceremonies were being carried out and who fed Lorraine with tea and biscuits during the wedding ceremony.

Candles all the way!

It was lights, candles and action for Grainne & Rory on the 21st December, the stunning Church of the Assumption in Howth set the scene for the candlelight arrival – 16 wrought iron aislestands, dressed with natural ivy and a pillar candle adorned the pews. At either side of the Alter stood one of our dramatic Gothic style wrough iron candelabra, standing at almost 8ft tall with candles, also draped with natural ivy.

As finishing touches, we added our luxurious satin chair covers, and guarding the front entrance, Bay trees dressed with ivory organza and satin ribbon complimenting the colour scheme stood alondside Lanterns.

The off to “The Grand” hotel in Malahide. A beautiful setting overlooking the bay. The ball room was set up banquet style and we finished the tables with our Silver Candelabra, standing at 90cms tall plus candles, these were also dressed wtih natural ivy and really complimented the look of the room!

After all the work was completed – we had a gorgeous lunch in the cosy lounge at the Grand Hotel, looking out at the red skies and the sea!! We can highly recommend the fish and chips!

Underneath, I’m paddling furiously!

I may appear calm and serene when I deliver the bouquets on the morning of a wedding, but, occasionally, like this morning, being a working mother can be a tad stressful!

As I could not arrange a sitter for Junior this morning, I decided to be effecient, after making up a christmas wreath in the workshop last night, I gathered up everything that I would need to do the bridal work from home this morning, therefore, could have Junior safely ensconced infront of Mickey Mouse’s Clubhouse on the telly with his toast and juice while I carry on with work in the Kitchen.

And so, I have the individual ivy leaves washed and wired, the lillies for the buttonholes trimmed and wired, the lillies for the bouquets sorted into groupings for bouquets and I realise that I’ve left the ribbons for the bouquets and the wrapping (known as gutta tape) for the buttonholes in the office!

Junior is unceremoniously whipped from in front of the telly, into a coat and into the pram (on our road, it’s quicker to walk to the office than drive in the morning!) ran around as quick as I could, picked up what I needed, ran back around, finished everything off (and they turned out lovely) Aunt arrives down to mind Jnr while I deliver and we’re off – delivered to a very happy bride who was thrilled with her bouquets and her gorgeous daughter who just loved her mini version of her mum’s bouquet.

Lesson’s learnt? Remember the ribbons!!
