Romancing the Snow

By the time our first wedding of December arrived, on the 4th, I could categorically tell you what footwear does not work well in the snow – firstly, Ugg boots – not waterproof, and wet sheepskin is not very pleasant, and secondly – riding boots – while they may be warmer and water proof, they have no grip – by the end of December, I officially hate snow!!

Let’s get back to our lovely bride Jennifer who was married on 4th December in AbbeyLeix Church, followed by Reception in the stunning surrounds of Castle Durrow in Co. Laois. Jennifer chose our Candlelight Package to set the scene in for the ceremony – Wrought Iron Aisle stands dressed with Ivy graced the aisle, with dramatic candelabra either side of the alter, and Bay Trees at the front entrance, the glow of candlelight adding a little warmth to a bitterly cold winters day!

Playing on the snowy, wintery theme, Jennifer chose bouquets of white roses, green mini-chrysanthemums and fluffy gypsophilia sprayed silver. The bridesmaids, who wore black satin, carried smaller posies with the same flowers as the Bride, who looked stunning on the day, complete with fur stole as she posed for a photo in the Snug Bar at Castle Durrow. We also bumped into Rhona and Susan again from the Powder Room Girls who did (as usual) a fab job with all the hair and make up.

We also dressed the Candelabra for the reception with lots of fresh ivy. This really complimented the graceful ballroom at Castle Durrow and we had a hairy few moments at the side of the N7, in the snow, in the un-water-proof Uggs gathering some fresh ivy as we ran a little short!!

After all the work was completed, we decided to warm our poor cold, wet feet by the open fire in the Snug Bar at Castle Durrow and ordered a tasty lunch – smoked salmon on brown bread and a big pot of comforting tea, before heading back to Abbeyleix to collect our stands and get back to the workshop to clean up.

Hen Nights by RosieDays!!

IMG_0613.JPG

Recently I was asked by a good friend to help with the planning of a hen night for her good friend!! Well – I didn’t need to be asked twice!!

IMG_1606.JPG

We all travelled to Waterford to the Marina Hotel where I booked a function room and the Powder Room Girls to come down to 16 of us Hens (me included!!!) En-route to Waterford I picked up gorgeous cupcakes from Niamh at Cupcake Queenie and we made our way down! So, we set up our “Afternoon Tea” in the function room – cupcakes, prosecco and chips and dips – where could you go wrong!! This was all a surprise for our Bride!! The music got going and we tucked in and started to be beautified!! The atmosphere was really great – especially for such a big group of girls! This was the 4th time that I had had my hair and make up done by the PRG team and yet again, I was not disappointed!!

Myself and another hen got our hair and make up done one of the first in the group and we sneaked out to decorate the Private Room I had reserved in LaPalma Restaurant on the Mall in Waterford. I assembled the FairyLight Backdrop behind the long table, then placed 2 large black martini glasses and filled them with white, pink and black ostrich feathers, white chair covers with black sashes for the hens and a black chair cover with a black sash for the Bride!! (the wedding theme was black and white!!). I have to thank Darius in LaPalma for being so helpful and accomodating!

We all gathered in the foyer of hotel for the next surprise – 2 limos to take us all to LaPalma! I used All Events Limos and they sent one stretch hummer and one strech silver limo!  We set off from the Hotel and were taken for a drive around Waterford City – with 2 bottles of Cava provided per limo to help us on our “Merry” way!! Arriving at LaPalma we had a pre-dinner cocktail! I had arranged a set-menu with lots of choices and the food it was agreed by all was fab!! We left LaPalma a few hours later and headed off to dance the night away and there were a few sore heads the next morning but a great night was had by all!!
