Rosie on the Green

St. Stephens Green, that is.

30th December saw us at the University Church on St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin’s City Centre. Laura and Paul tied the knot here, followed by a reception in The Westbury Hotel on Grafton Street.

As the ceremony was quite late – at 4pm, Laura decided she would like a romantic, candelight effect in the church so we set up the wrought iron aisle stands along the aisle. Dressed with natural ivy they really do add something special as you enter the church and walk up the aisle surrounded by candlelight. We dressed the alter rail with ivy and tealights and provided a large Unity Arrangement on the Alter itself, filled with White Avalanche roses and Eucalyptus foliage.

Laura’s own bouquet was an elegantly simple handtied posy of White Avalanche Roses mixed with white miniature calla lillies and finished with a soft ruscus collar, and ivory satin ribbon handle. The bridesmaids carried simple bouquets of white roses, finished with ruscus and navy ribbon handles to match their dresses.

We were also asked to do the table centrepieces for the Westbury Hotel, something that reflected the time of year, but that weren’t “too christmassy” so, I came up with the idea of groupings of large pillar candles at different heights, on a mirrored base to reflect the amazing chandeliers above the tables in the ballroom, and Laura had come across the gold mirrored tealight holders so we provided those on each table in addition to the pillar candle arrangments which were finished with a scattering of pine cones to reflect the wintery season!

Jenni & Simon

Congrats to Jenni & Simon who were married on 1st November in Rathgar, Dublin. We had the pleasure of decorating the Synagogue and preparing the bouquets.

The bridal bouquet was created in a teardrop shape, hand tied, and I used beautiful avalanche roses, bouvardia and mini white calla lillies. Finished with delicate soft ruscus and the stems were wrapped in elegant white satin with a diamond and white feather for luck detail as a final flourish!

The bridesmaids, who wore royal blue, carried mixed hand tied posies of white and sweet avalanche roses. For the gorgeou flower girl, we stiffened the white satin bag provided by the bride, and filled it with fresh rose petals, and pinned a cute corsage to the front.  We created a wrist corsage of lisianthus and bouvardia for the ring bearer and the groom wore a double calla and bouvardia bouttoniere.

In the synagogue, we draped the Chuppah with ivory tulle and finished with natural variagated ivy. The ivy detailing was reflected on the window sills, which were draped with bunches of trailing ivy and finished with fresh flowers. 4 Pedestal arrangements carried through the pale pink accents with roses, lisianthus and pale pink anthuriums and finally, the dramatic pew decoration of draped organza and groups of roses and greenery.

The gorgeous Aisle Runner was provided by www.weddingrunner.com (who have kindly allowed us to use their video clip).

Brooklodge Wedding

10th July 2009

It is often said that business and pleasure should never be combined, well I beg to differ!! One of my best friends – Rachel married Andrew on 10th July 2009 in The Most Sacred Heart Church, Aughrim, Co. Wicklow. I was honoured as a guest and charged with the floral duties !

The day before the wedding, armed with a carload of flowers and tools, I made my way down to the wonderful Brooklodge. After checking in I went down to the church, introduced myself to Joe the ever-friendly sacristan and got to work! Later that evening I prepped the bouquets and alter arrangements and first thing on the morning of the wedding after the best irish breakfast i’ve ever had – finished the bouquets with navy velvet ribbon and diamonte pins, made up and detailed the buttonholes, brought all florals to the various hotel rooms, checked all was 100% in the church and then I was free to be a guest!

The brief – ivory avalanche roses, simple, no fuss and that’s what was provided ! Candelabra and aisle stands kindly provided by Aisling at Elegance & Grace as the RosieDays stands were being used at another wedding that day!

A simple unity arrangement and vases of flowers for the alter, Bay trees for the front door, romantic candles with trailing ivy and flower detail for the window sills, outside stair rails draped with tulle and ivy and simple organza pew bows with navy ribbon finished the decoration of the church.
